1) Find a hot-selling affiliate product that you have affinity for. It's much easier (and more fun means more motivation) to succeed if the product is something you like.
Don't pick a product if you hated it (do I need to tell you?). Also, avoid Internet marketing or "make money" products for a start, if you want to be assured of tremendous results on your first try.
Knowing how to select the right product is CRUCIAL for success!

2) Perform keyword research (the correct way) to find the sub-topics about what people are hungry for. This will be for new articles you need to write about.
Providing high quality fresh content is a sure shot of good ranking and visitor retention.

e.g .Wordtracker: $8 per day, Keyword Discovery: $49.95 per month |
|
3) Hire a good ghostwriter to write 5 original articles. PLR (private label rights) articles do not perform as well, unless you modify them substantially.
Take your time to find a really good writer - this is crucial.
|
3 |
5 articles x $10 per article = $50 |
|
4) Find an available search-engine-friendly domain name. Having your keywords in the domain name helps in ranking, to a certain extent. Not as easy as it sounds - good domain names are usually taken.

5) Register and configure web hosting account. Generally speaking, a free or cheap hosting is not worth considering. You'll end up with endless troubles, and any downtime with your website means you would have lost visitors, credibility and potential sales.
No web host is 100% perfect, but there are some which are close (reliability, good support etc).
Also, learn to set up FTP.

6) Build a website using Wordpress blog. Why Wordpress? A blog platform is ideal as it has various search-engine-friendly and Web 2.0 features such as user interactability, dynamic updating, tags support, ping services, social networking-ready, Adsense-ready, multi-lingual support etc.
Don't use Wordpress out of the box - it's not search engine friendly. You need to modify the template.
We have customized our template (not found anywhere) to suit our purpose of ranking well easily, and using our proprietary customised features for that visitor-pulling website feel.

8) Hire a good graphics designer to design header/footer graphics to match the niche. Don't try to do it yourself, unless you are a graphics designer.
A website with amateurish graphics just cannot make it and visitors will not stay more than a few seconds.

9) Design an attractive home page, focusing on the affiliate product. Soft-sell only, don't hard-sell here.
Main purpose of the home page is to capture email addresses. More opt-ins means higher success rate of monetizing from the subscribers later.

10) Hire a good ghostwriter to write a 5-part e-course. Again, providing quality content ensures your subscribers do not unsubscribe in a hurry.

11) Register and configure autoresponder service.

12) Design a compelling opt-in form, with the free 5-part e-Course as a bait. Add a visually stunning eCover for effect. Sprinkle your sales message for the affiliate product sparingly in your email series.
Alternatively, you can use emails to invite your subscribers to view the content on the website, with strategically-placed Adsense for that extra money, and a lead-in to the affiliate product.

14) Submit the 5 articles to article directories (there are a few hundred now). You can submit by hand, use a submission software, or a submission service. Fully automated submission is not encouraged.
Important: The articles must be written in such a way that readers will be attracted to read to the end, where your resource box will be. A good article will also have a higher chance to get picked up by other webmasters, where you'll get generally better quality back links and targeted visitors.
|
16 x 5 articles = 80 (if by hand) |
5 x $10 per article = $50 (submission service) |
|
15) Submit website to link directories (about 400). Again, you can submit by hand, use a submission software, or a submission service. Fully automated submission is not encouraged.
Link directories are human edited, so you must learn to write your title and description in a way that your website will have the highest chance to get accepted in most directories.

Notes:
The estimated effort varies depending on your knowledge and prior experience. You might need to come up with extra costs to learn certain things that are essential for an online business.
Let's say you are earning $3000 a month, your hourly rate is roughly $17 per hour. So for 162 hours, it's equivalent to $2,754 of your own personal time.
In other words, if you were to do everything by yourself, one niche site would cost you ($2,754 + $831) or $3,585.
Oh, there's one little secret we'd like to keep. It involves website promotion and linking strategy, and using this combination of secret techniques, your brand new website will have that TURBO BOOST to attain impressive ranking fast, and stays there, while continuing to climb. It's still possible to rank well using just the steps above (without our secret strategy), but may not rank as well or as fast.
